  —Franz Kafka

In the spring of 1995 Don left the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a B.S. in Secondary German Education which he put to great use while working as a bartender and/or office assistant over the next 7 years. Having moved to San Francisco in 1996, Don found himself in the perfect location when a mid-life crisis encouraged him to consider a return to the world of German literature. After first earning an M.A. in Comparative Literature from San Francisco State University he is now in his first year at UC Berkeley. He will be searching high and low for specific areas of research interest as well as a dissertation topic during the next few semesters. In the meantime his interests include the Holocaust; National Identity Formation; and Dutch literature and culture.
