I am a fourth-year graduate student in the German Department. My interests at the moment gravitate toward two (admittedly very large) masses: the German Enlightenment and its relationship to literature, and the influence of the French Revolution and Napoleonic Era in German-speaking lands, including the question of how far these events/periods influenced the emergence of political modernity in those lands. Other interests include the various legacies of German Protestantism,  "Enlightened" and later approaches to theorizing myth and religion, Hellenism in German history, and the philosophy of Ernst Cassirer.
