Yael Chaver received her Ph.D. from U. C. Berkeley (2001) and works at the intersection of modern Yiddish and Hebrew cultures and literatures, with a particular interest in the Zionist Yiddish culture of pre-statehood Israel and in interwar European Yiddish literature and culture. She is the author of "What Must Be Forgotten: The Survival of Yiddish in Zionist Palestine" (2004, Syracuse) and its Hebrew version (2005, Yad Ben Zvi, Jerusalem). Her articles have appeared in "Jewish Social Studies," "Yiddish" and "Prooftexts," and she has presented at numerous international conferences. Dr. Chaver is currently engaged in a study of the Yiddish poet Rikuda Potash; among other topics, this project includes her personal and poetic relationship with the German poet Else Lasker-Schueler who lived in Palestine during World War II.
