Beyond Borders: The German-Jewish Legacy Abroad

As time recedes, the interest and influence of a number of Weimar German-Jewish intellectuals becomes, surprisingly, ever greater. This series will examine their resonance outside their German borders: in an attempt to recast Zionism and humanize nationalism; in creation of a new kind of cultural and intellectual history able to grasp National Socialism; and in the crucial ways they have made their mark upon Anglo-American culture. The series will analyze the fate of these intellectuals and their thought both beyond their own literal borders (whether in voluntary or forced exile) and the ways in which at the same time their sensibilities have questioned, and often subverted, conventional cognitive ad conceptual boundaries.
