Berlin Program in German

Enjoy a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the German language and culture and spend your summer in Berlin, the capital of Germany and European metropolis. Choose between an intensive (5 days a week, 4.5 hours of instruction per day) or a semi-intensive format (3 days a week, 4.5 hours of instruction per day). Courses are offered at all levels (beginning, intermediate, advanced), and you will be individually placed at the appropriate level, depending on your background and a placement test. The curriculum includes cultural excursions in Berlin and extra-curricular programming (river cruise, visit of the Reichstag, movies). All language courses are taught by native speaking, experienced faculty, co-coordinated by UC Berkeley faculty and articulated with UC Berkeley German courses (G1-101) and you will earn between 4 and 7 ECTS credits (not UC). Upon successful completion, you can continue continue your study at UC Berkeley’s next higher level. You will register with FUBiS (Freie Universität in Berlin in the Summer)and go individually and independently while benefitting from the resources and structure of an established international summer University. Taking advantage of local resources significantly reduces your cost; the cooperation with UC Berkeley’s German language program also reduces your tuition and fees by 150. You can either make your own housing arrangements or choose from the options offered by FUBIS. 2011 Program costs:Berlin will provide an invaluable cultural supplement to formal language instruction.
