MAJOR CITATION
The Departmental Citation for outstanding academic achievement in the German major is awarded annually to a graduating senior. The selection is made by the Undergraduate Affairs Committee.

THE BRUNO AND ERNA EHLERT PRIZE
Recipients of this annual prize carrying a financial award must be seniors majoring in German demonstrating outstanding academic accomplishment in the German major. The selection is made by the Undergraduate Affairs Committee.

In support of the increasingly recognized objective of US colleges and universities to internationalize the curriculum, DAAD New York is pleased to announce the edu.de 2001 initiative to enhance opportunities for undergraduate research and study visits to Germany. edu.de 2001, under the auspices of the German Foreign Office and the European Recovery Program (ERP) of the German Federal Government, offers two program venues:

Scholarships for a Semester or Year Abroad

These scholarships are available for a stay in Germany of four to ten months. Again, all academic fields are eligible.

The catalogues of summer programs offered by German universities for 2001 include many specialized language (law, business, science, technology, media) and thematic focus courses (engineering, science, business, economics, history, politics, European studies, philosophy) to choose from. CDS International

The Carl Duisberg Society organization offers various training internships in Germany ranging from 3 to 18 months in business, engineering and technical fields. Proficiency in German language and US citizenship may be required.

Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Program to Germany (Deadline to apply: Dec. 1, 2003)

Scholarship program with strong focus on the cultural experience, designed to give participants understanding for life, education, and professional training in Germany. Intended primarily for young adults (18-24) in business, technical, vocational, and agricultural fields. Duration: 12 months. US citizen or permanent resident. German proficiency is strongly recommended but not required.

Summer Internships in Germany

Deadline: December 15, 2003

This summer program provides training opportunities in Germany for students enrolled in US colleges and universities. Paid placements are available in business/finance, hotel mangement / tourism, computer science, and engineering fields.

Requirements:

Citizenship: US Citizen, or enrolled at US college or university.
Age: Maximum age is 30.
Language: Proficiency in German (equivalent of 2 years post-secondary instruction).For those individuals who need further language training, one-month intensive language course in Germany prior to two month internship.
Education: College students majoring in business, marketing, engineering, computer science, or hotel management / tourism.

Responsibilities of Participant:

  • Send in a complete application by December 15, 2003
  • Pay $700 program fee
  • Arrange and pay for your flight to and from Germany
  • Find housing in Germany (with our assistance)
  • Represent your home country in a responsible way.
  • Non-US citizens must take care of any visa required by the German government.

CDS and Partner Organization:

  • Pre-departure orientation mailing
  • Orientation seminar upon arrival in Cologne
  • Enrollment in language course, if necessary
  • Internship placement in your field with a German host company. (Paid internships offer usually Euro 250 - 500/month.)
  • Work authorization and assistance with other bureaucratic matters.
  • Support throughout the program in Germany and the USA.
